This ribbed texture came from a piece of wood trim I borrowed at a workshop in February. It's aggressive...and doesn't work on certain form, but here, on this 4.5" mug it does.
 
I like transparency: If you have fat fingers like me, this is a one-finger mug. More slender-fingered users will be able to go with two.
